Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the United States. She's been an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for nearly 10 years. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly non-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular stories of culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to harassment targeted at women and other marginalized classes of individuals in the internet environment. Sarkeesian has a degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The ambitious lady planned to launch a web series that would examine the gender roles in video games. However, she ended up being the victim of an online harassment campaign. The attack did not stop her, rather it strengthened her determination as an activist for women in media. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades in recognition of her many significant contributions to the world of feminism.
