
DeWitt first appeared on stage at the age of 13 years old. DeWitt was a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. When she performed in her summer stock she was encouraged by the director to enroll at UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her performance in Three's Company's 1977-1984 run as Janet Wood. This was the first job she had after being selected for the pilot episode that followed. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers, which she appeared in 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to appear in the series' 1984 finale. She was then featured in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. After that she stopped acting for a number of years. Acting was her first foray back to the stage in June of 1991 when she was a performer in a Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired a 1997 episode featuring characters based on her. The voice was performed in part by a different actress. She made an appearance in the episode Cybill and made an appearance on the last episode of Living Single. Six of her TV shows of the 2000s included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as well as Call of the Wild.
