Robyn R. Fenty NH[2(/ri'aen@/ (/ri'aen@(/ri'aen@ (listen) ree-AN -@;[3][4][n 1] born 20 February 1988) is a Barbadian singer, actress, and businesswoman. Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados and was raised there. She auditioned for Evan Rogers, an American record producer, who requested her to make demo tapes in United States. After signing with Def Jam, in 2005 Rihanna gained a lot of attention with the release of her two first studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005) & A Girl Like Me (2006). The albums heavily influenced by Caribbean music, and made it to the top ten positions on the US Billboard 200 Chart. Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna's third album was heavily influenced by dance-pop. It made her an iconic sex figure in the music industry. Rihanna's first Grammy Award was won for her smash hit single "Umbrella" that catapulted Rihanna to global fame. In her subsequent studio albums Rated R (2009) and Loud (2010) Talk That Talk (2011) and Unapologetic (2012) she continued to mix R&B with pop and dance genres. The last album , Unapologetic, was the first time she reached Billboard 200 number 1. A string of chart-topping singles were released from the albums which included "Rude Boy", ("Only Girl in the World")" as well as "What's My Name?" ", "S&M", "We Found Love" & "Diamonds". The album she released on her eighth, Anti (2016), displayed a new style of creativity following her exile from Def Jam. It was her second US top album and featured the chart-topping track "Work". Rihanna has worked closely with numerous artists throughout her music career. Rihanna, who has sold more than 250,000,000 records around the world, is the second-best selling female musician in the music industry. She has had 14 top-ten hits, 31 top-10 singles in the US, as well as 30 top-10 singles in the UK. Her awards include nine Grammy Awards, 13 American Music Awards (including the Icon Award), 12 Billboard Music Awards, six Guinness World Records, the NAACP's President's Award, and an Academy Award nomination. Time has named her among the top 100 most influential individuals around the globe in 2012 and 2018. Forbes listed her as among the top ten highest-paid celebrities for 2012 and 2014.
